FAQ about counselling and Therapy

Is counselling and Psychotherapy always long term?

No is the simplest answer. Before starting work with me I undertake a 3 session assessment where we can think together about how long you might need to be in counselling or psychotherapy.

Some people come for a few appointments and some come for a longer period of time. Either way of working is reviewed regularly throughout the work together.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

It is sometimes thought of as counselling being shorter term and to focus on specific issues. Psychotherapy traditionally is thought of as longer term and encompassing the whole of the person rather than specific issues.

Can I come more that once a week?

There are times when it is necessary to see a client more than once a week. This is something that would be discussed at assessment or during the work if appropriate.

Do you work with couples?

No I am not a couples therapist which is a specialised area of work.

I can work with parents together to think about the relationships with their children and how they are relating as a family in order to provide support.
